When GroupWise updated to version 6.5, and instant messenging program came with it. For some people, this new program causes confusion because a window pops up after they log onto their computer asking for yet ANOTHER password.

Messenger log in

Despite the name “GroupWise” in the title bar, the password this window needs is your Novell password (the one you use to log into your computer), NOT your GroupWise password (although you can set this to be the same as your Novell password).

Note: You do have the option of “saving” your password; just put a check mark in the Remember Password field. Keep in mind however, that when you have to change your Novell password (every 90 days), the Messenger window will have to prompt you for the new password.

If you don't want to have GroupWise Messenger start up automatically, you can turn it off.

  • Click on Tools, Options, and double-click on the Environment icon.

The following window displays.

Environment options

  • Just click in the box that says “Launch Messenger at startup”

You can still run Messenger at any time from either a shortcut on your desktop or from clicking on Start, Programs, Novell GroupWise, and then GroupWise Messenger.
