GroupWise Categories

New in GroupWise 6.5 is a way to color-code items in your account using categories. Not only do the colors help you differentiate and organize items but you can sort by a category with the filter button. Categories can be applied to e-mail, appointments, tasks, and notes.

For example, you can create a High Priority category, assign it a red color, then apply it to certain tasks, appointments, and/or notes. Then you can filter your calendar view to show only those High Priority items.

Note: Categories are not yet available on the Mac version of GroupWise.

To create a category,

  • Click on an item such as an e-mail to select it.
  • Click on Actions, Categories, More... (if it's grayed out, click on an item such as an e-mail to select it).

Category window

  • Give your category a name in the field at the bottom of the window.
  • Click on the Add button.

All new categories are assigned the standard black color.

To change the color,

  • Click on the category to select it.
  • Click on the Edit Color button.

Color window

You can pick one of the basic colors to the left or customize a color as needed.

  • Click OK when you've chosen your color.
  • Click OK to close the Category dialog box.

The item you had selected in the beginning will appear in the new color.

To filter a folder (i.e. Mailbox, Calendar, or a folder in your Cabinet),

  • Click on the drop-down arrow next to the Show: area in the GroupWise header.

Category filter

The default is to show All Categories.

  • Click on the category you would like to filter by.

The folder is filtered according to the chosen category.

Tip: Clicking on the More... option at the bottom brings up the window where you can create another category or modify an existing one.

Note: You can tell if you've got a filter in place if the two circles at the far right of the gray header are in color. The word Filtered will also appear after the folder name in the gray header.

To clear the filter,

  • Click on the same drop-down arrow you did to put the filter in place and select the All Categories option at the top.

OR

  • Click on View, Filter, Clear.
