The New Look
The Home view lets you quickly view your most important items, all in one screen. The default setting is to see your calendar, checklist, and any unread e-mail in a series of panels which can be customized.
Note: The CWU Intranet will still come up first.
Access the home folder once logged in by clicking on it in the left pane.

To customize the Home view,
- Right-click on the Home folder.
- Select Properties.
- Click on the Display tab.
- In the View by drop-down list, make sure it says Panels.
- Click on the Customize Panels button.

In this screen, you can choose how you want the Home screen laid out (one or two columns), and which panels you want to show in those columns.
Note: If you've selected the Two-column layout scheme, a separate area will appear for each to add Panels.
- Select a panel from the Available Panels list and click the Add button.
- Use the Move Up, Move Down, Edit, and/or Delete buttons to position and customize the panel.
- Click OK.
The Navigation (Nav) bar is located just below the menu bar and allows for quick access to your most used folders. By default, you'll see access to the Home view, Mailbox, Calendar, Sent Items, and Contacts.
- Click on any of these shortcuts to display that folder.
To customize the Nav bar,
- Click on the drop-down arrow at the left of the bar and select Customize Nav Bar.

- Place a check mark in the box next to items you wish to display in the Nav bar.
- Change the Color Scheme by picking a color from the drop-down list.
This option will group your emails under a header for each date.

- Click on the Display tab.

- Place a check mark in the box that says Show Group Labels.
- Clic OK to close the dialog box and Save the settings.
If you are logged into GroupWise Messenger and get an e-mail from someone that you want to reply to, note in the header of the reply e-mail the icon to indicate whether that person is also logged into Messenger.

A grey icon next to the name indicates the person is not logged on while a colored icon is the opposite.
Tip: You can also tell if that person is logged into Messenger with the Quick Info box (yellow box that pops up when you park your mouse over someone's name).
There's a new tab under Environment options under your Tools menu called Appearance.
- Go to Tools, Options and double-click on the Environment icon.
- Click on the Appearance tab.

Email Changes
When you get any message (safe or otherwise), the default action is to not display images if you are in HTML view mode (plain text view mode is not affected). This helps prevent viruses and spyware which can come through in an e-mail.

A bar appears at the top of the message to let you know the images have been blocked.
- Click the bar to display the images if you trust the message is from a safe source.
To change the default action on incoming messages such as these,
- Click on Tools, Options, and double-click on the Environment icon.
- Click on the Default Actions tab.
In the top right corner under HTML external images, you have options to always show the warning as seen above, never show the warning, or check Frequent Contacts which means if the person is in your Frequent Contacts book then they must be a trusted source so images will automatically display.
If you get an e-mail from a new contact and want to add them to one of your personal address books,
- Open the e-mail.
- Right-click on the name in the From field.

- Choose which book to use.
A new contact window appears with the e-mail field filled out.
- Add whatever additional information you want and click OK.
To change how your messages are formatted when you reply,
- Click on Tools, Options and double-click on the Environment icon.
- Click on the Reply Format tab.

Here you can mark your preferences for when you use either plain text or HTML as your reply format.
If you're wondering why some of the words you're typing end up with a red line underneath them, that's because the Quick Spell Checker is activated. Similar to other applications such as MS Word, GroupWise can check spelling as you type. If it doesn't recognize the word, it underlines in red, allowing you to see right away that you may need to change your spelling. Keep in mind though, there may be words you use that GroupWise doesn't recognize (like names) so you'll need to add those words to the dictionary or just ignore them.
To activate the Quick Spell Checker,
- Go to Tools, Options, and double-click on the Environment icon.
On the General tab,
- Click in the check box for Check spelling as you type.
Note: You can also check the box to Check spelling before send but it is not necessary to have both options activated.
If you know you've spelled the word correctly,
- Right-click on the word to bring up the shortcut menu.

The first section of the list brings up suggestions for your spelling. Note the other options that allow you to ignore the word (Skip Always) or Add to Word List.
With GroupWise 7, you can have more than one signature block. These blocks are created with HTML (and no, you don't need to know the code) so you can add color, pictures and more. Keep in mind however, that you need to compose your e-mail in the HTML mode of GroupWise and the receiver needs to read your e-mail in HTML mode for the “extras” to appear. If these two conditions are not met, the text of your signature block will still appear but none of your fancy formatting will come through.
To create a custom signature block,
- Click on Tools, Options, and double-click on the Environment icon.
- Click on the Signature tab.

- Click on the New button.
- Give your block a name.
- Use the HTML bar across the top of the signature block field to choose your font style, color, etc.
- Click on the double-arrows on the right-hand side of the HTML bar for more options such as inserting a picture.
Tip: If you have the "automatically" add option selected, your default signature block is what will be added. If you want to choose between them, check the option to “Prompt before adding”, then you'll get a prompt where you can choose which block to use every time you send out an e-mail.
This feature you don't have to turn on anywhere – it's automatic. As soon as you open a Find window and enter your criteria, GroupWise will automatically include most attachments in its search (if it doesn't recognize the file type, it won't search the contents but will the file name).

Calendar Changes
Create multiple calendars and have each one a different color to help differentiate them.
- Click on File, New, Calendar.
A new Calendar folder appears below your original Calendar folder.
- Give your new calendar a name.
The check box next to the new calendar indicates that whatever you post to this calendar will also show up in your main calendar.
To pick a new color for you calendar,
- Right-click on the new calendar and select Properties .

In the Calendar Folder section there's a check box for Color .
- Check the box then pick your color with the color button next to the check box.
Note: If you post something to a new calendar and someone does a busy search on your account, they will see areas blocked out for your additional calendars even though those items aren't on your main calendar. The Busy Search tool does not differentiate between your main calendar and any additional calendars you set up.
Block out an entire day for holidays and such with the “All Day Event” option.
To post an All Day Event to your calendar,
- Go to the day you want to block out in Day View.
- Double-click on the appointment grid to get the Posted Appointment dialog box to appear.
- Click on the Actions menu.

- Select the All Day Event option.
Note: All Day Events will post to your calendar as “Free” by default. Make sure you change that to Busy so no one will try to schedule an appointment with you while you're gone.
- Open the original appointment.
- Click on Actions, Show Appointment As, and select Busy.
If you want to differentiate your calendar items you can do so with Line and Color options.
- Click on Tools, Options, and double-click on the Date & Time icon.
- Click on the Calendar tab.

Check the box if you want a background color applied to your All-Day-Events, Appointments, Notes, and/or Tasks then use the drop-down arrow next to the Color box to open up what color choices are available.
You can show or hide the lines on Notes and Tasks by marking the Lines check box.
Another option would be to “revert” the color choices to an older version of GroupWise with the GW60 or GW65 buttons.
