The New Look
GroupWise 6.5 has incorporated many new features.
When you first open GroupWise, you'll note the new look.
This is a fairly significant upgrade from the previous version. Novel
has tried to make the PC and Mac versions look the same.
There are now two toolbars across the top:
- The first toolbar is standard and holds many of the common functions
available in GroupWise.
- The second toolbar is context sensitive and will change slightly according
to the area you are in.
For ease of interpreting, some of the buttons have text along with the
graphic. Note also that other buttons have a drop-down arrow next to them
to indicate more options.
The proxy access button that used to be located in the lower left-hand
corner is gone.
To access your Proxy accounts now, you need to use the drop down arrow
above your name where it says Online or click on File,
Proxy.

- Select which account you want to proxy over to and click
OK.
The window changes to show the proxy account.
Before when you wanted to change any of the program preferences such
as your password, proxy access, etc., you would go to Edit,
then Preferences.
Now to change those preferences, you need to go to GroupWise,
Preferences to open the Options dialog box.

New Folders
If someone sends you an e-mail you'd like to mark as a task, you can
move it from the Mailbox to the Checklist folder.
Each item in the Checklist folder is a “to do” item with
a box to check when the item is completed.
You can assign due dates to Checklist items just like you would with
a posted task.
Note: Tasks posted to your calendar will do not show
up in the Checklist folder and vice versa.
The Contacts Folder is basically a shortcut to your
Frequent Contacts address book.
Although you can't make changes to the information in the System Address
Book, you can change the information for people in your Frequent Contacts.
If you want the Contacts Folder to point to a different book,
- Click the Contacts folder in the left-hand
pane to select it.
- Click on File, Properties.
- Click the address book name from the Address Book
drop-down list, then click OK.
In previous versions of GroupWise, if you wanted to view your sent items,
you had to click on the View menu, then Sent Items.
In the new GroupWise, the Sent Items folder is now a system folder and
will always display. Clicking on this folder in the left pane of the GroupWise
window will cause the contents thereof to display in the right pane of
the window, just like any other folder.
Note: If you move a message from the Sent Items folder to another folder,
it will physically move to the other folder.
Sent Items can be distinguished from other messages by the red arrow
next to them.
Other than being able to move e-mails from the folder, Sent Items in
the new GroupWise still work the same as they did before (i.e. you can
still resend, track, etc.).

E-mail Changes
Certain windows in GroupWise have been given a new appearance. The
Compose Mail window, for example, now has two tabs:
- The Message tab where To, From,
Subject, and Message are filled out.
- The Send Options tab where Return Notification,
Reply Requested, Classification, and
other options are filled out.
PC users have long enjoyed being able to read and compose mail messages
in HTML.
HTML messages allow for more flexibility in formatting such as changing
the font color and style. You can also add horizontal lines to separate
portions of your message and add hyperlinks to either web pages or an
e-mail address.
To compose an e-mail in HTML mode,
- Open a Compose Mail window.
- Click on View, HTML.
The following window displays.

The New and Improved Address Book
The System Address Book can still be accessed using the appropriate button
on the toolbar.
The left pane of the window displays a list of the address books you
have access to.
The right pane of the window will display the contents of the book you
select in the left pane. This is similar to using OS-X's new column view
in Finder.
At the far right of the gray bar across the top is a filter button. Click
on it to filter for Groups, Contacts, Resources, or Organizations.
Addressing an e-mail has been sped up a bit by simplifying the way one
searches the address book.
When you are composing an e-mail and want to search for a name in the
address book, clicking on the Address button in that window brings up
the following, simplified version of the system address book:
The best way to select the addresses you need:
- Click in the Look In field to select which
book you want to search in.
- In the Look for: field, start typing the last name of the person,
if your book is sorted by last name, or the first name if it is sorted
by first name.
As you type, GroupWise will display the closest match, until the name
you want displays.
The list of names scrolls to the one you typed.
As soon as you can see the name you want, even if it is not highlighted,
- Click on it to select it.
- Click on the To: button to include that
name on the list of primary recipients.
- Click on the CC: button to include that
name on the list of Carbon Copy recipients. All recipients can
see the names of all CC: recipients.
- Click on the BC: button to include that
name on the list of Blind Copy recipients. A Blind Copy recipient
can only be seen by that recipient and the sender.
Once you have built your recipient list.
The names you selected display in the appropriate
fields in the Compose Mail dialog box.
Note: A quick way to create a Group is when addressing
an e-mail; after you've got your list created in the Address Selector,
click on the Save Group button.

Changes in the Calendar
The calendar in the new Mac version of GroupWise has undergone significant
improvement. New views have been added while other, less commonly used
views have been removed.
The navigational features have been streamlined and made consistent among
all views of the calendar.
There are buttons across the top to access the different views instead
of tabs.
You still have the option of viewing or turning off Appointments, Notes,
and Tasks.
Creating group meetings still works basically the same as in the old
version but with a few improvements.
When you want to select a time for your meeting, you can use the Time
Input dialog box rather than just typing in the times.
To use the Time Input dialog box,
- Open up a Meeting window.
- Click on the clock icon to the right of the field that shows
the time.

- Click and drag the arrows for your Start and End times.
