Information Technology Services: CWU Patch Server |
CWU Patch Server:The Department of Information Technology Services (ITS) has implemented a new Patch Server. On a daily basis this patch server synchs up with Microsoft and downloads all current patchs for distribution to windows 2000 and windows XP machines on the CWU campus. If a critical patch is identified it will automatically be installed. At times the PC will require a reboot. If this is necessary the user of the machine (if not a student) will be asked if they want to reboot now or later, however, the update would not be complete until the reboot. ITS is providing this service to the CWU campus for several reasons, the main reason is to keep machines patched and attempt to prevent the spread of viruses and worms. Having this Patch Server on campus will also save bandwith for CWU. If you have a laptop that is not running Novell Netware you will need to update your registry keys so that your machine will be automatically patched when connected to the CWU network. The process to update registry keys is simple and takes less than a minute and does not require a reboot. Just follow the instructions below. Click on this link to update your registry keys.
