Information Technology Services: Remote Access - Windows 2000

Creating a New Windows 2000 Dial Up Connection

  1. Open your computer to the "Desk Top". Close all programs.
  2. Click on the Start button. Arrow up to Settings. Click on Network and Dial-up Connections.

  3. Double click on the "Make New Connection" icon.

  4. Click "Next" to continue.

  5. Put a dot by "Dial-up to the Internet" and click "Next" to continue.

  6. Put a dot by "I want to set up my Internet connection manually...". Click "Next" to continue.

  7. Put a dot by "I connect through a phone line and a modem". Click "Next" to continue.

  8. Nothing goes in the "Area code" box.

    Use the following numbers for the "Telephone number" box:

    CWU Students use 9638000 and CWU Faculty/Staff use 9638002.

    Put a check in the "Use area code and dialing rules" box. Click "Next" to continue.

  9. Enter your full context and password in the "User name" and "Password" boxes (ex: .SimpsonH.S.Students.CWU). Click "Next" to continue.

  10. Type Dialaccess or any name you want in the "Connection name" box. Click "Next" to continue.

  11. Put a dot by "No" under "Do you want to set up an Internet mail account now?". Click "Next" to continue.

  12. Uncheck the box next to "To connect to the Internet immediately ...". Click "Finish" to continue.

  13. You will return to the "Network and Dial-up Connections" window.
    Right mouse click on the "Dialaccess" icon.
    Left mouse click on "Create Shortcut".
    A box will pop up saying "Windows can not create a shortcut here...".
    Click "Yes" to clear that box.
  14. Click the "X" in the upper right corner to close the "Network and Dial-up Connections" window and you will return to your desktop.

  15. Back on your desktop should be a new icon that looks something like this:

  16. You have now finished creating a new Windows 2000 Dial Up Connection.
