At CWU, the best line of information techology security is YOU. The Information Technology Services (ITS) Department takes security very seriously, and is continually taking steps to improve the security of sensitive information on campus and adhere to State policies regarding security ... but security goes far beyond just keeping information from falling into the hands of those that shouldn't have it. IT Security also means protecting our systems from vicious attacks, malicious data destruction, accidental data loss, and more.

October is Cyber Security Awareness Month, and the ITS Department has developed this website to not only provide you information on security issues here at work, but also security tips to help protect your technology at home. In addition, links in the left-hand grey menu provide access to Washington State and CWU Security Policies and Guidelines.

Security Breach Notification and Information

Information disclosures are reported because the personal information compromised includes data elements useful to identity thieves, such as Social Security numbers, account numbers, and driver's license numbers.

Congress is considering several bills this year in which security breach notices would be mandated nationwide. Washington State already has such a law.

For more information on tracking security breaches nationwide, please visit the Privacy Right Clearinghouse.
