Applications are invited for the 2002-2003 Mahajani
International Scholar award. This is an honor bestowed upon
one international student each academic year in memory of Dr.
Usha Mahajani, who served as a professor of political science
at Central Washington University from 1965 until her
tragically premature death in 1979. Her career at Central was
marked by her enthusiasm for teaching, the great joy she
received from helping students, her spirit of cooperation
with faculty colleagues, her active community outreach, her
intellectual curiosity and her distinguished research in
political science and Southeast Asian studies.
The Mahajani International Scholar is an international
student who best reflects Dr. Usha Mahajani's enthusiastic
commitment to academic excellence, intellectual development
and community service. The Mahajani International Scholar for
2001-2002 will receive $1,000, awarded at the beginning of
fall quarter 2001.
- CWU international, undergraduate, degree-seeking
student who is in F-1 non-immigrant student status.
- Eligible to apply at the completion of sophomore or
junior year with scholarship given at the beginning of fall
quarter, and recognized during Homecoming Weekend.
- Academic excellence demonstrated by a cumulative GPA of
3.5 or higher
- Campus and/or community service which demonstrates
application of your international perspective and academic
interests
- Apply at end of sophomore year or end of junior year;
must be a junior or senior when award presented in
October.
- Submit a Personal Statement in which you describe your
intellectual interests, achievements, and future
aspirations. Please include a description of how these
interests have been demonstrated through participation in
departmental activities, international programs and
activities, or other campus or community service.
- Provide a letter of support from a faculty member in
your academic department.
- Submit application to the Office of International
Studies and Programs on or before the last day of classes
of spring quarter.
Recipient will be invited to participate in the spring
scholarship reception and will be asked to grant permission
to use their photograph and story of their accomplishments to
publicize the Mahajani Scholarship.
