Sponsoring Institution: Anhui University

Anhui University was established over 50 years ago in the pre-liberation provincial capital of Anquing. In 1952, when there was a major restructuring of all institutions of higher learning, as well as a radical shift in the political direction of China, Anhui University separated itself from the College of Agriculture and the Teacher's College and reestablished itself in its present location of Hefei. Following their reestablishment, Central Washington University and Anhui University have been sister universities for over 15 years. Faculty and students alike have participated in multiple successful exchanges.

Program Site:

Anhui University is located in Hefei ("green ancient city"), the capital city of Anhui Province in the People's Republic of China. Hefei is considered the old site of the Three Kingdoms period (circa 996), as well as the hometown of Bao Zheng, one of China's most celebrated leaders.

Exchange Program:

Faculty teach conversational English and American Culture. No previous teaching experience in those areas is required. Faculty also may teach a course in their discipline if circumstances permit.

No language requirement.

Length of Exchange:

Normally, exchanges are for one or more quarters up to one year. However, in certain cases, short-term visits are possible (one month minimum).

Accommodations:

A furnished room in the university guest house is provided although facilities are subject to change. Shared cooking facilities are usually available.

Application Process:

Applications are due during fall quarter. Faculty are encouraged to pick up CWU applications during Spring or Summer quarters of the year prior to the exchange.

Conditions:

Subject to the approval of all the appropriate authorities, Central Washington University faculty will retain their salary and benefits. The Office of International Studies and Programs provides roundtrip airfare for the selected participant.
