Office of International Studies and Programs: CWU Direct Exchange Application |
Purpose:The purpose of these exchanges is to further CWU goals of internationalizing the curriculum, strengthen Area Studies education, support faculty development in international areas, and to assist faculty in developing study abroad/exchange opportunities for CWU students. Given the limitations on funding for replacement and growing interest in faculty exchange, the total number of exchange positions are limited and awarded on a competitive basis. The International Programs Advisory Committee (ISPAC) recommends faculty for exchange using the following criteria:
Final acceptance for exchange depends upon the host institution. To Apply:Interested faculty can request an application from Ms. Bobbie Peterson (voice: 3616; fax: 1558; e-mail: petersob@cwu.edu or download the Faculty Exchange Application. Applications should be submitted along with a current CV by January 31 each year to: Michael Launius, Executive Director Applicants must have departmental and school or college approval when applying for exchanges. Approval of the department chair and school/college dean implies their agreement to release the applicant from departmental responsibilities during the period of the exchange with the understanding that the department will not necessarily be compensated for this individual’s absence. Chairs and Deans who approve a faculty exchange should understand that most of these exchanges are reciprocal and, therefore, their approval implies acceptance of a future obligation to host a visiting scholar. Usually, only tenure-track or tenured faculty are eligible for exchange faculty appointments. However, under special circumstances, faculty on continuous year-to-year appointments may be considered for exchange. Cost of economy travel is provided by the Office of International Studies & Programs for the participant only. Participants are also allowed a total of $150 for shipping instructionally related materials. Additional support for research while abroad can be solicited from ISPAC Small Grants. Recommendations on placement will be made by the university International Studies & Programs Advisory Committee (ISPAC) to the Executive Director of International Studies & Programs. Actual placement will depend upon budgetary considerations and negotiations with the respective host institutions. For a list of teaching opportunities, click here. |
