GUIDELINES FOR PREPARING ANIMAL RESEARCH MATERIALS

A. GENERAL SUGGESTIONS

1. Begin the application process by carefully reviewing the CWU Animal Care and Use policy and Section 5 of this manual "The IACUC Review Process." Visiting the IACUC website's frequently asked questions (FAQs) may also be helpful.
2. Obtain the most current version of the Clearance Form from the IACUC website. Forms may be updated at any time in an effort to improve communication between researchers and the IACUC and/or to meet regulations.
3. The form provides a series of issues to be addressed. The main reason for delay in approval is failure of the PI to provide complete information in response to all of these issues. Researchers are encouraged to contact the IACUC Chairperson during the planning stages of their research for assistance in developing procedures or completing the clearance form.
4. Be sure to obtain the signature of your department chair before submitting your materials to the IACUC. Students must also obtain the signature of their faculty sponsor. The IACUC will not review or approve applications that are submitted without these required signatures.
5. After submitting your clearance application materials, you may be contacted by the IACUC for additional information about your proposed research. By responding promptly to these requests for information, you can assist in facilitating a more timely review process.
