APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The July 18, 2002, Employee Council minutes were approved as presented.
FINAL DRAFT OF THE SUPERVISOR FORM/EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH
Council members approved the final draft of the Employee of the Month supervisor
form. Leona Lindvig will send the document in final form to Human Resources.
Because supervisors must submit two different forms for employee of the month
and to avoid confusion, this form will not be placed on the Employee Council
web site. Human Resources will send the form to the supervisor after
receipt of a completed Employee of the Month Nomination Form.
APPROVAL OF EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH SELECTION COMMITTEE
Council members approved the 2002-03 Employee of the Month Selection Committee.
The vice chair of Employee Council, Dorothy Tenney, will serve as chair of
this committee. After discussion, it was decided to add committee selection
guidelines to the Employee of the Month Procedures.
SELECTION OF EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH
Mary Smith, Registrar Services, was selected as the Employee of the Month
for August 2002. The following statements were taken from the nomination
forms:
Mary is in charge of the “nightmare” of scheduling the classroom usage every
quarter for the ENTIRE campus. She receives 600-1000 change requests
per quarter. She does her job without showing frustration, and is always
willing to assist. She goes above and beyond the call of duty in the
positive, efficient and professional way she handles her job. Mary
can be counted on to take care of problems and she is always friendly and
cheerful. I could not do my job without her.
Daily, Mary has to deal with conflict. She has gone beyond the call
of duty many times for faculty, staff, and students, whether it be a last
minute room or building change. She is our cheerleader, support, and
rock. She is always willing to help out, whether it be entertaining
the students with her boa’s, umbrellas, or special pens. She impacts my job
by making my work easier.

HUMAN RESOURCES ANNOUNCEMENTS
* The new Vice President for University Relations is Dr.
Paul Baker.
* Ona Youmans informed the council that a special logo
would be used to identify material for the Civil Service Reform Act.
Ms. Youmans urged council members to complete the civil service reform on-line
survey found at <
http://www.cwu.edu/~hr/surveys/DOP/survey.htm
>. She indicated that the state is asking for input from various
state employees to assist in establishing new base rules for civil service
who are in or out of a bargaining unit. There are also plans to conduct
statewide forums regarding the reform act. Central has offered the
campus as a possible forum sight.
* Surveys on civil service reform were sent to civil service
employees and supervisors of civil service employees on July 29, 2002.
Human Resources has been busy collecting responses, but has only heard from
a fraction of those surveyed. If you have questions or comments regarding
civil service reform and/or collective bargaining changes, or have ideas
on how to improve the civil service system, or if you would like to share
your concerns with us, the survey is still posted online for your convenience
at http://www.cwu.edu/~hr/surveys/DOP/survey.htm
. The survey format maintains absolute confidentiality - we will not know
who you are unless you choose to include your name and contact information.
If you do not have access to the Internet, please call 963-1258 to request
a printed copy.
