Bereavement Leave

Bereavement leave is paid leave that an employee is entitled to because of the death of a family or household member as defined by the terms of the employee's employment program or collective bargaining agreement. Bereavement leave is leave that is in addition to an employee's accrued sick and vacation leave.

  • If additional time is needed, the supervisor may approve an employee's request to use paid leave (accrued compensatory time, sick leave, vacation leave, and/or a personal holiday) or, if no paid time or leave is available, to take leave without pay for purposes of bereavement, subject to the terms of the employee's employment program or collective bargaining agreement.
