Full time commissioned CWU police officers are eligible to participate in
LEOFF 2.
Eligibility exception If you move from a PERS eligible position (Classified
Staff) to a CWURP eligible (Faculty or Exempt) position or vice versa, contact
the Benefits Office to determine your
retirement plan choices.
The current rates (effective 2/1/2004) may change as determined by
the state. Employer contributions are not credited to your account and
cannot be withdrawn. The amount you and CWU contribute is not a factor
in computing your retirement benefit.
- Employer 5.29% of gross salary
- Employees 5.07% of gross salary
You are eligible to retire if you are:
- age 53 or older with at least 5 years of service credit, or
- age 50 with at least 20 years of service credit at a reduced benefit.
It is recommended that you contact the Benefits
Office approximately six months before your desired retirement date.
Monthly retirement income is 2% x year of service x monthly averaged of your
60 consecutive highest-paid months. See the
LEOFF Benefits
Estimator.
Returning to work after retirement requires a minimum of one full calendar
month break in service after retirement. There are no exceptions. Review
the LEOFF website
for more information about LEOFF member post-retirement re-employment
rules.
For additional retirement income, beyond what your LEOFF plan offers, CWU
employees may contribute pre-tax money to a supplemental retirement account (not
matched by CWU). See Supplemental Retirement Accounts.
