Wildcat Welcome Weekend 2008
September 19-22, 2008

Wildcat Welcome Weekend is a mandatory event for all first-year students and will help you begin to feel at home at Central. You will connect with other students, become familiar with campus and get acquainted with the many resources available to you. We want to help prepare you for a successful academic experience. In addition, to many fun activities, we have planned several valuable educational sessions and workshops.

David Coleman, 10-time National Collegiate Speaker of the Year, delivers a fast-paced, humorous and uplifting program that covers issues you may face during your initial year here at CWU and helps you process ways to navigate the sometimes bumpy road of adapting to college life.

Ever have a desire to play Twister with 12 of your closest new best friends? How about getting "zapped" in an electrifying game of Laser Tag? Become the game while you play Human Foosball. For the more gentle at heart, have your caricature drawn by the incredible Steve Hartley...have your picture taken in the always fun and fabulous Photo Booth. Student clubs and organizations will also be on hand so that you can find out information about how to get involved and have fun at CWU. For the recreation minded--the incredible Recreation Center will be in full swing with plenty of room and activity for you to re-energize from your busy day. Climb the 50 foot climbing wall; get a pick-up basketball game together with some new friends. Walk or run on the 1/8 mile indoor track or make like a washing machine and try spinning and cycling…

Join your new "class of 2012" at the SURC for an evening of awesome entertainment and fun....And food!!! Bring your Connection Card to load up on food and beverages.

Meet in Student Union Pit to walk to City Pool
Head to the pool for a relaxing moonlight swim. Enter the now-famous diving contest or practice your cannonball. Snacks will be provided (forget about the half-hour thing…lifeguards are on duty).

    Bob Hall's presentation on sex, conflict, alcohol, and intimacy provides an opportunity for students to be part of a nonviolent atmosphere in which they can engage in conversation without feeling uncomfortable or threatened.
  • Diversity at CWU: The Naked Truth on Stereotypes
    Music Building
    Stereotypes can hurt deeply and impair our abilities to see and accept the complex truths of our selves and one another. This theatrical production seeks to heal our fractured selves and communities by unveiling and debunking the socially constructed myths of identity that divide-to-conquer us daily. Featuring CWU student voices, this original social he Artistry production honors and amplifies truth, exposing constructs and expanding concepts and capacities through personal expression.
  • Mixed Drinks, Mixed Emotions: Alcohol Abuse and Mental Health
    McConnell Auditorium
    In his program, Ross Szabo addresses the growing number of college students that are dealing with mental health issues and how the use of alcohol can play a negative role in coping strategies.

Want to learn how to use the 50' foot Climbing Wall? This is your chance to take the Top-Rope Belay course. This course is designed to teach the skills needed to pass a Top-Rope belay exam. $15.00 per Participant. Preregistration required. For reservations and information please call 963-3512.

The College of Arts and Humanities is home to the departments of art, communication, English, foreign languages, history, music, philosophy, and theatre arts. Studies in these departments teach students to understand and appreciate the complex physical, cultural, and imaginative dimensions of human existence. They also instill in students a lifelong thirst for learning and prepare them for a variety of professional schools and careers. A brief overview of the college's departments and interdisciplinary programs will be provided, as well as information about study abroad and internship opportunities.

The College of Business (COB) is proud of its heritage of creating value and opportunity for its students. This session will provide an overview of academic programs within the COB, and current students will describe how they have discovered value and opportunity in their pursuit of business degrees.

Education offers programs in teacher education including bilingual, dance, early childhood, elementary, English as a Second Language, family and consumer science, health/fitness, library media, reading, special education, technology, and traffic safety. It also provides the professional education courses that pre-service teacher candidates must take regardless of endorsement area.

Professional Studies offers a wide variety of programs in the departments of Family and Consumer Sciences; Industrial and Engineering Technology; Aviation; Information Technology and Administrative Management; Health, Human Performance, and Nutrition; Aerospace Studies; and Military Science.

College of the Sciences

The College of the Sciences is home for the natural, social, and behavioral sciences, as well as mathematics and computer science. Its major programs prepare students for a wide variety of professional, technical, scientific, and leadership careers. The college prides itself on the opportunities it offers for close faculty-student collaboration across the spectrum of scientific research fields.
