Living Learning Communities: Living Learning Communities |

"I chose to work at Central Washington University because of its Living Learning Community program. I was eager to help develop the LLC's into a nationally recognized program, and I believe we are well on our way to making that happen. With the enthusiasm of faculty, professional staff, and student staff, LLC's can positively impact residents by promoting learning outside the formal classroom setting!" Christine Bloczynski, Residence Hall Coordinator "It's truly an honor to work with the Upperclassmen Music LLC. The students all have this determination and drive that I don't see in other upperclassmen residence halls. I believe this comes from the close ties the music students build with each other in Kamola. They know they have a community to come home to every day, a community that will support them in their endeavors" Leanne Todd, Resident Assistant, Kamola Hall. "The music LLC gives you the opportunity to meet people of the same interest. It also makes it easier to get along with the other residents." DaNell Dyer "Everyone wants to hang out in the music LLC because it is a fun, great place to be!" Clara Cook "A Living Learning Community such as the Music LLC affords the opportunity for students and faculty to share ideas and enthusiasm about music in a more casual setting. This personalized approach allows a truly free and open approach to the educational experience at Central." Professor Mark Babbitt, Music Faculty "Some of my closest friends I have made at Central are people I live with and are involved in the Education LLC. The faculty take time out of their busy schedules to encourage learning outside of the classroom." Kevin Smith (La Connor, WA) "The Education LLC is a great way to get to know other residents. We are future colleagues, and it is so helpful to get to know our professors personally in addition to our classroom relationship." Amy Lundeen, Resident Assistant, Elementary Education "Being a faculty advisor for the Education LLC keeps me energized. It provides faculty the opportunity to meet and mentor future teachers and watch them grow into educators and future leaders." Professor Chris Curran, Teacher Education Programs-Special Education "Bringing freshmen and upperclassmen science majors together helps develop a sense of community in the residence halls. Also, the links between intellectual life, personal and social life can't take place in faculty offices or in the classroom. Its too formal and artificial. As a faculty mentor, I get to see students as interesting people, not just as lecture-listeners." Dr. Charlie Rubin, Geological Sciences "I love geology, and I think it's cool to spend time with other people who like the natural sciences." Korin Carpenter "I am very excited to be a part of the Natural Sciences LLC. I love science, and it's a great way to share your passions with others around you." Kendra Hinckley |
