University Housing and New Student Programs

Mission Statement

The Office of University Housing and New Student Programs develops premier residential communities and programs that promote student learning and personal development. We are committed to:
  • Providing quality service and responding to students' needs
  • Ensuring a strong community living experience
  • Providing an orientation program that acclimates students to campus and augments student learning
  • Assisting students in developing cultural and academic competence
  • Promoting diversity, tolerance, and cultural competence
  • Challenging students in the areas of personal wellness, integrity, and responsible citizenship
  • Offering a safe, clean, comfortable and academically enriched living environment
  • Projecting future trends
  • Interacting and collaborating with other departments to ensure seamless service, provide co-curricular experiences, and promote student engagement

Goals and Objectives

2006 - 2007

Goal I: Openness and Respect
Create an environment that values different ideas and perspectives. Prepare students to value, appreciate and acknowledge the diversity of the global society through engaged community development and student learning. (University Strategic Goals 1 and 6)

Goal II: Assessments
Evaluate and enhance quality services of the department by improving assessment of student learning, student needs, programs, faculty interaction, and student growth and development. Communicate findings to students, administration and faculty. (University Strategic Goals 1 and 3)

Goal III: Retention
Assist in campus wide services and initiate efforts that helps students to be successful in college and continue their educational pursuits at Central. (University Strategic Goals 1 and 3)

Goal IV: Co-Curricular
Augment classrooms experiences by fostering an environment that promotes life-long learning, which includes intellectual, social and emotional growth, and provides leadership opportunities. (University Strategic Goals 1 and 5)

Goal V: Staff Development
Implement proper staffing structure and training techniques to successfully accomplish goals and mission of University Housing and New Student Programs and the University Programs.

Goal VI: Facilities/Custodial
Work collaboratively with Facilities Management and Custodial Services to ensure a safe and comfortable living experience. (University Strategic Goals 1, 3 and 5)

Goal VII: Budget
Maintain a budget that focuses on facility and program improvements while supporting proper staffing structures and program needs. (University Strategic Goals 3)

Goal VIII: Safety and Crisis Management
By Working collaboratively with Student Affairs and Campus Safety, create living environments, which allow students to feel safe and secure and know that assistance is available when needed. (University Strategic Goals 1 and 6)

Goal IX: Marketing
Enhance the image of University Housing and New Student Programs so students may understand the benefits of living on campus and participating in various activities and services.

Goal X: Technology
Utilize technology within the department to promote services and provide for efficient processes, etc.
