First-Year Newsletter | First-Year Schedule of Events

General Information
The Discover! New Student Orientation and Enrollment Program is part of a series of comprehensive programs specifically designed to acclimate newly admitted students to Central Washington University. During Discover! you will hear presentations from faculty and staff, receive valuable information about programs and services, experience a taste of campus life and enroll in your fall-quarter classes.

Discover! gives you the opportunity to:
  • Understand academic requirements and receive guidelines for success
  • Learn about major courses of study and future career opportunities
  • Receive individualized attention from professional advisors who will assist you with class registration
  • Utilize the CWU SAFARI online registration and student account systems
  • Explore buildings and facilities, and get a glimpse into life on the CWU campus
  • Begin an integral part of your university experience by meeting fellow students, faculty, advisors, and staff
  • And…make new friends who will become an integral part of your college experience


New Student Programs and the campus community look forward to meeting you, having you become a part of the CWU family and providing the opportunity for you to begin to experience college life at CWU. Our CWU faculty and staff will be available to answer your questions about academic and student activities.

First-Year and Running Start Students

The first-year/Running Start program is designed to assist newly admitted first-year and Running Start students who have recently graduated from high school and/or have completed less than 45 transferable college credit hours. ALL Running Start students, regardless of the number of completed credits, are required to attend the first-year/Running Start program. The summer program is for students admitted to fall quarter. It is a mandatory, two-day program scheduled throughout July. Program materials are mailed to newly admitted students in April. Reservations are required and applicable program fees will be changed to your fall quarter account. Payment is not due until after you receive your fall quarter invoice which is typically mailed in late August.

Transfer Students

The transfer student program is designed to assist newly admitted students who have completed 45 or more transferable college credits hours. The summer program is for students admitted to fall quarter. It is an optional, one-day program that is scheduled on two dates in July. Transfer students who do not attend Discover! may enroll in classes online. Check the Registrar's web page for online enrollment dates. Reservations are required for attendance at Discover! and applicable program fees will be charged to your fall quarter student account. Payment is not due until after you receive your fall quarter invoice which is typically mailed in late August.
