Other Training Opportunities
Introduction
There are a variety of other training opportunities available to interns throughout the year. The training options accessible to you are presented during the orientation period. You will then work with the Coordinator of Training and your primary clinical supervisor to modify your weekly schedule to reflect these additional activities. You may also elect to concentrate more time in one of the core components of the internship program (for example, group interventions). Although we cannot guarantee the option for specialized training activity will be possible, we will work with you in an attempt to satisfy your requests.

Administration
As an integral member of our staff, you will participate in planning workshops, attending various staff meetings, and contribute to the agency's decision-making process. However, possibilities may exist for you to be involved in additional administrative activities throughout the year. For example, you may choose to act as a consultant to other campus agencies or develop and implement a group intervention. You may also request to serve on a standing University committee. By concentrating on administration, you will be encouraged to make decisions regarding program development, resource planning, staffing, and follow-up.

Research
Conducting empirically based research protocols is not a primary mission of Counseling Services. Nevertheless, research is supported and often occurs within our agency. Certain staff members remain actively involved in research, regularly presenting findings at local and regional conferences. We encourage interns to participate in their own research during the internship year. Computer access time and consultation with staff are available to support research and dissertation projects.

Wildcat Wellness Center
The Wildcat Wellness Center is a branch of Student Health, Counseling, and Wellness Services. We work in close association with Wellness Services and have frequent interaction with the director and professional staff. One key function of the Wildcat Wellness Center is to address substance misuse and abuse issues. Motivated interns who develop specific goals for learning in the wellness area are given the option to complete a minor rotation, assisting in drug and alcohol assessment and intervention programs.

Career Services
Central Washington University is committed to assisting students in finding employment after graduation. Career Services is designed to support students with this task. Undergraduate courses developed to facilitate career exploration are routinely presented by Career Services. Career assessment and job placement are also provided by the staff of this office. Interns interested in obtaining experience in career counseling are encouraged to discuss this option with the Coordinator of Training. Placement at Career Services is contingent on the availability of supervision and sufficient time in the intern's schedule.

Areas of Specialty
Working within a university counseling setting increases exposure to an array of client characteristics. As a result, the possibility of obtaining specialized training exists. One way to achieve such training is to take advantage of optional rotations. Other areas of specialization may also be available including: Health Psychology, Eating Disorders, Multicultural Therapy, Religious/Spiritual Therapy, Empirically Supported Treatments, ACT, Trauma/PTSD, Sexual Abuse, Program Development/Evaluation, Supervision, and Research. There may not be a formalized structure through which to gain access to one or more of these specialty areas. However, if you are interested, motivated, and enthusiastic we will work together in an attempt to achieve your training goals.
