Craig Revels is a broadly trained geographer specializing in the peoples and landscapes of Central America, with an emphasis on human-environment interactions over time. His diverse research interests focus on the analysis of cultural landscapes at multiple scales, with emphasis on the intersection between economy, culture, and environment. Additionally he is now conducting a study of hybrid poplar cultivation in the Pacific Northwest as a component of the cultural landscape, and also working collaboratively on an investigation into the dynamics of industrial agricultural processes in the Columbia Basin.

In terms of curricular offerings, Dr. Revels has been involved with teaching not only the introductory classes of World Regional Geography and Introduction to Human Geography, but also a wide array of upper-division courses such as Cultural Geography, Latin America, Environmental Literature, and the cross-listed GEOG/ANTH 440 Ecology and Culture. He feels that given the range of different learning styles present in the average college classroom, it is critical to provide different mechanisms for students to engage with course material, and believes that students should be provided with flexible, adaptive settings in which to learn; thus, he emphasizes student participation, exploration, and discussion in all of his classes.
