[Sept. 24, 2006] With funding from the NSF-CCLI program, a three-year research effort has begun to develop curriculum modules for college professors on introducing accessibility topics into the computer science curriculum. Miho Watanabe will help with setting up the accessibility lab fall quarter.

[May 13, 2003] Ed Gellenbeck, with the help of Ian Campbell, Kelly Crooke, Heath Brown, and Esmeralda Hernandez, delivered a presentation of Web Accessibility at Central Washington University as part of Disability Awareness Week. The Web Accessibility PowerPoint slides are available for viewing [as well as a text only version of the Web accessibility presentation.

[April 2003] Kelly Crooke was hired full time at CWU to assist on the redesign of the CWU Web site including bringing it up to meet Section 508 Guidelines

[January 12, 2003] Valerie Hagen and Roy Avery audited the accessibility of faculty Web pages designed to support courses being taught at Central Washington University. They presented their results of their audit of the accessibility of faculty course web sites as a poster session at SOURCE 2003 as well as a Web site that summarizes the results of the audit of the CWU faculty course Web pages.

[October 5, 2002] Kelly Crooke, Lindsay Appel, and Tammie Correll presented their results of their audit on the accessible of higher education Web sites at the student poster session of the 2002 CCSC-NW Conference in Seattle, Washington. Their poster was awarded third place in the best poster competition.

[September 3, 2002] Nick Elsberry has done an accessibility make-over of the Web site for Central Washington University Continuing Education pages. The accessibility features and policy are noted. As a result of the work, CWU's Continuing Education web site has been honored for excellence in the Internet Web Site category by Learning Resources Network (LERN), an international lifelong learning association. CWU’s winning entry was selected from a field of more than 150 nominations from eight countries. Congratulations to Nick and his colleagues.

[August & September, 2002] Kelly Crooke completed a make-over of key pages at the Central Washington University Web site for accessibility as part of a summer internship with the Web Development Office.

[August 2, 2002] Ed Gellenbeck and John Creech delivered a follow-on Workshop on Developing Accessible Web Pages at Central Washington University on Friday, August 2. The workshop handout and the corresponding HTML slides are available for viewing.

[July 27, 2002] Kelly Crooke documented a make over of the CWU Department of Computer Science Web pages. Three pages were chosen for the make-over: the department's home page and two pages consisting of data tables.

[July 25, 2002] Ed Gellenbeck and John Creech delivered a Workshop on Web Accessibility at Central Washington University. The workshop handout and the corresponding HTML slides are available for viewing.

[June 7, 2002] An audit on the accessibility of the Central Washington University Library (pdf file) was prepared for John Creech, the Electronic Resources and System Librarian. The AccVerify report on the library audit is available as well as the Bobby results for W3C WAI compliance and the Bobby results for Section 508 compliance.

[May 16, 2002] These results of the accessibility audit of the six baccalaureate universities in Washington state was presented at SOURCE, the Symposium for Undergraduate Research at Central Washington University. PowerPoint slides used during the SOURCE presentation (pdf file, 589K) are available for viewing. This abstract on An Audit on the Accessibility of Higher Education Web sites (pdf file, 48K) provides a brief overview of the project.

[March, 2002] A survey was conducted with members of the Washington Association on Post secondary Education and Disability (WAPED) to determine the number of visually impaired/blind students or blind students enrolled at their institutions of higher education, the adaptive technology in place to support these students, and the Web accessibility policies of their institution. The WAPED survey instrument, the data collected, and an abstract of the results (pdf file, 243K, 8 pages) are available for viewing.
