Rationale |
More than any other course you take for the major, this course provides exposure to the type of real world software development you are most likely to encounter during your professional career. You will need to work together in groups and draw upon almost all the computer science knowledge and techniques you have studied throughout the curriculum. You should come away from this course understanding the difference between a program and a software product. |

Catalog Description |
The software development process: user requirements, specifications, design, coding, testing, maintenance, documentation and management. Students work in teams to develop large software projects. Four hours lecture/laboratory per week. |

Attendance and Class Participation |
Class attendance and participation are critical for success in this course. You are expected to come to class prepared to discuss the readings and offer your opinions. Just as important is showing respect for others, careful listening, and cooperative work outside of class. Having said this, however, grading based on class participation can be problematic. Personalities play a big role; some people like to talk more than others do. Attendance and participation will be graded based strictly on attendance. Everyone is given three free absences without affecting your grade. However, each missed day over three will lower the Attendance and Class Participation portion of your grade by 10%. For example, if you miss four days, your score for Attendance and Class Participation would be 90%. |
