Design Critique, Post-Mortem, and Time Analysis
Prepare a three to five page final report to me (your instructor) that summarizes your CS 446 prototype project
- Include a brief re-statement of the
- Real-world problem addressed by your program
- Primary user type for your program and sample persona
- Typical uses of your program
- Describe the major user interface design decisions you encountered
- Discuss different alternatives you considered for each major design decision and the trade-offs between alternatives
- Explain the rationale behind the GUI design decisions you made
- Note: limit your discussion to decisions made in the USER INTERFACE DESIGN (forgive my yelling); not in its implementation
- Discuss the user interface problems remaining and changes you would make to your program's user interface based on the experience testing your prototype
- These are some of the most important paragraphs to your memorandum. Put some thought into improvements that should be included in the second iteration
- Note: limit your discussion to problems in the USER INTERFACE DESIGN (forgive my yelling); not in its implementation
- Assemble summary statistics and graphs on the time you spent on the integration project this quarter
- Your detailed time logs for each phase of the project should be used to collect these statistics
- Analyze your summary statistics and time-management skills on your work on the integration project this quarter
- Do a project Post Mortem
- Describe the development process you used this quarter to develop your prototype
- Discuss the successes and problem areas with the development process you used to develop your prototype
- Discuss changes in the development process you need to make reduce the likelihood of the problems re-occurring
- Note: the post-mortem section deals with the DEVELOPMENT PROCESS (forgive my yelling); not the success, problems and changes in the software program you developed
Grading criteria
Your grade will be based on the quality of your report as well as your demonstrated writing proficiency.
A scoring rubric [PDF] will be used for assessing this assignment. You are encouraged to print this rubric and use it as a checklist for expectations, writing guidelines, and quality assurance.
Honor code: The words contained in the design critique need to be your own. You may wish to have someone else proofread for spelling and grammatical errors.
Submission Guidelines
Neatly print out your final report to turn in at the start of the final exam period.
