Abyss Web Server
Abyss Web Server X1 is a free, no expiration, personal Web server we will use to test PHP web pages in the Hebeler Lab during the second half of the quarter.
It is set-up already in the Hebeler Labs. Follow these instructions only if you want to set up Abyss Web Server X1 on your personal computer.
Download, save, and run Abyss Web Server X1 installer program.
The default setup options are OK with the following exception
- Startup Configuration
Once installed, start up Abyss Web Server
- Make yourself the Web Administrator and set your password. Click OK
- You may be prompted to log in, if so, log in with the username and password you just entered.
- The Abyss Web Server Console window should come up in a browser window
- Note: To display the console window at any time, right click the Abyss Web Server icon in system tray and select "Show Console ..."
- In the console window, click on the Server Configuration icon. Click Parameters.
- Keep or set the <Server Root> to your preferred location. This is the location where you will save your PHP files.
- In the Hebeler labs, the server root location is U:\
- You may wish to set your server root to a path under My Documents
- If you decide to change your <Server Root> location, create three folders to be used by Abyss at your new <Server Root> location:
- htdocs
- log
- cgi-bin
- Click OK and then restart Abyss to save your configuration
