CWU's Nutrition Science Club is made up of undergraduate
and graduate students majoring or minoring in Food Science and Nutrition
and students with a general interest in nutrition. The purpose of
the club is to provide learning and leadership opportunities in the fields
of food science, dietetics, and nutritional sciences outside of the
classroom. The club sponsors lectures/presentations/demonstrations,
participates in community service projects, organizes field trips, and
more.

Join us for a viewing of the award-winning 2004 documentary on what
happens when a person eats only at Mcdonald’s for one month. Also
we will be holding election of officers and gathering information about
possible programs for the 2004-05 year.

The Dietetic Internship Application Process
Dr. Bergman will discuss the Dietetic Internship application process
as well providing information for improving your chances of being admitted
into a DI program. This seminar will be essential for those applying
for internships beginning this summer/fall and useful for students applying
in subsequent years.

US Army Dietetic Internship
Capt. Christian Pingrey will talk about food and nutrition in the Army,
have samples of MRE’s (Meals Ready to Eat) for you to try, and provide
information about the Army’s Dietetic Internship. Currently, CWU
graduate Kyle Peper is an intern in their program.

Annual Tour of Seattle Food Businesses
Learn about careers in the food related industry. This year we
will be touring Food Services of America, Kenco Foodservice , and Continental
Mills (makers of the Krusteaz line of baked mixes). Lunch will be
provided. A panel of food professionals will also be at lunch to
talk about careers in the food industry. We will leave CWU at about
8AM and return at about 5PM.

Diabetes Expo
Join the YVDA dietitians and others at this educational/informational
event for diabetics.
February 1 - Cooperative Field Experience -
Dr. David Gee
For students interested in applying for dietetic internships as well
as for those wanting to explore career opportunities, Dr. Gee will review
why you should be interested in doing a cooperative field experience, where
CWU students have done them in the recent past, and the process for setting
up a cooperative field experience.
February 15 - Japanese Cooking Demonstration
Owners from the new Japanese restaurant in town (Sen) will be giving
a cooking demonstration as well as giving the students to opportunity to
roll their own sushi.
March 1 - Panel of Local Registered Dietitians
Local area RD's will discuss the path that led to their current professional
positions.
March 26 - Tour of Madigan Army Hospital and Fort Lewis
Students from NSC as well as other pre-professional health clubs will
tour Madigan Army Hospital and meet with their respective Army health professionals.
March 31 - Healthy
Kids, Healthy Weight - Ellensburg High School - 7PM
The Nutrition Science Club is organizing a community event as part
of National Nutrition Month. This event features Lizann Powers-Hammond,
extension faculty from WSU giving a presentation on the obesity crisis
among our youth and what parents can do about it. In addition, the
elementary school-age children of these parents will participate in activities
organized by students from the Nutrition Science Club, Health Education
Club, Exercise Science Club, and Physical Education Club. NSC will
be looking for volunteers the first week of the quarter to help out with
registration, etc. All members are invited to attend.
April 7 - Ellensburg Diabetes Education Show
Hosted at the Kittitas Valley Community Hospital, this event gives
diabetics the opportunity to learn more about their disease and the treatment
of their disease. Nutrition students will organize/man several booths
dealing with nutritional aspects of diabetic care. See Cameron Van
Tassel if you are interested in volunteering.
April 17-19 - Washington
State Dietetic Association meeting - Hilton-SeaTac Hotel
Nutrition: Up Close and Professional
This large meeting of state registered dietitian is a great opportunity
for nutrition students to learn more about the field as well as about the
profession. Registration must be received by April 4 for early registration
rates ($95 for full conference for ADA student members, $50 for one day).
Nutrition Science Club will organize car-pools and coordinate lodging.
