Designing web pages is
a fascinating hobby. The following links have helped me pick
up a few things.
- Bellsnwhistles.com:
This site claims to have everything you need to build your
web site -- and all for free.
- The
Java Boutique: reviews, articles, tutorials, applet
downloads.
- Web
Style Guide from the Yale Center for Advanced Instructional
Media: an elegant site where images are used only to
illustrate content. Advice on site design, page design,
graphics and multimedia. Not quite Strunk & White
for the web, but along those lines.
- The
Alertbox: Current Issues in Web Usability: What are
the top ten web design mistakes? How do you make effective
use of style sheets? How do users read on the web? This
bi-weekly column by Jacob Nielsen, a Sun Microsystems
Distinguished Engineer, gives the answers to such questions
and many more.
- Web
Page Design For Designers: Designer Joe Gillespie
offers sound advice on effective web design and usability.
He makes good use of layout, fonts and colors. A beautiful
series of pages.
- Freelinks.com:
Once you design and publish a web site, you must still
tell everyone that it exists. This site helps you link
your site to the top search engines -- all for free. It
lists links to regional and specialty search engines as
well as the biggies like Yahoo, Google and Alta Vista.
It also features links to web site promotion tools and
resources.
