Central Washington University Baseball
Family Fun Run

Introduction:
In celebration of all the hard work and dedication our players and families have put in to the 2003 CWU baseball season, also to celebrate may being health and fitness month, there will be a family fun run at the baseball field on the campus of Central Washington University. The players and families of players are all invited to participate in the 1st annual CWU baseball fun run (and a little game of poker.)
Format:
The teams will be split up in to groups of 5 (preferably all from the same family) and asked to run one leg of the 3 mile course that winds throughout the campus of Central Washington University. Each team member will run a half mile section, and at the end of their section, will be handed a playing card. Each member of the team will receive a playing card once they have completed their quarter mile run. The team with the best hand at the end of the fun run will win the competition and earn a CWU baseball T-shirt for each member of their team.
Rules:
All participating baseball players will be required to come up with a group of 4 other family members (friends will be allowed if there aren’t enough willing family members) that are willing to participate in the fun run. Before the start of the run, each team will be matched up with the other members from their squad and walked through the marked off 3 mile course. The team members will then be split up and taken to each different section of the course that they will run. Remembering that each member of the team only has to run one half mile section. Once they have completed their section of the run, they will be handed a card and from there are allowed to walk back to the start/finish area to meet back with the rest of their team. After completion of the run, each team will have a total of 5 cards (5 card stud is the name of the game) the team with the winning poker hand will be determined the winning squad and rewarded their price. But since this is all in fun, there will be juice and granola bars for all those who choose to partake in the run.
Equipment Needed:
v Deck of playing cards (52 cards)
v Granola Bars
v Juice
v 5 cones which will mark the end of each half mile run
v Whistle (this will be used for the start of the run
v 5 people that will be the designated to hand out the cards as each team member finishes their run and make sure there is no cheating (switching cards)
v 1 person (me) that will look at all the teams hands and determine a winner
v Copies of the course map for each participating team (we don’t want anybody to get lost and have to run more!)
Set-Up:
Cones will be set up to mark off the end of each half mile run, and where the next team member will take off from. Since we will be using one big field, the visibility of the cones should be easy. Each team will split up and go to their starting point. Once all team members are in place, the starting members of the run will line up at the starting position to begin the poker fun run. The whistle will sound and the run will begin. (Time is not an issue in this run, and will not be counted for or against you) After each team has finished the run, they will turn their 5 cards in as a team. A winner will be determined, and then announced to all, and prizes will be handed out to the winning team of the 1st annual CWU Baseball Family Fun Run. Just a friendly game of poker!!!! And remember HAVE FUN!!!
