Faculty Senate: 2007-2008 Faculty Senate Standing Committee Charges

Faculty Senate Academic Affairs Committee
  • AAC07-08.01 Provide a year-end report to the Executive Committee by May 19, 2008.
  • AAC07-08.02 Review proposed policy language change in 5-9 "Transfer Credit from Community Colleges" change as proposed by Registrar.
  • AAC07-08.03 Investigate how grade inflation has been addressed at CWU and other institutions, beginning with state peers. Prepare a report outlining how grade inflation is defined, how it is identified, and the factors/parameters that are identified as contributing to it and whether it exists at CWU. Include any other information that the AAC deems important on this subject.
  • AAC07-08.04 Based on previous ad hoc committee reports to the FS in 1994 and 1997-1998, consider the conclusions reached and examine how similar concerns have been addressed by other universities, especially in Washington and at peer institutions. Please compare out current grading policy (Section 5-9.4.14) with those of other institutions to determine the impact of establishing a university-wide grading policy based on: 1. a specific GPA; 2. the use numerical scores instead of letter grades; 3. adding class rankings or class averages next to student letter grades. The EC requests a report by May 15, 2008, summarizing the committee's work and providing any recommendations that would effectively address grade inflation.
  • AAC07-08.05 The Executive Committee charges the committee to conduct a survey of students and faculty on the current catalog, how it is used and how it might be improved. While it is currently presumed that a print publication will remain the primary medium for the catalog, additional suggestions for other media would also be welcomed.
