In “Fun with Microsoft Office”, you will be practicing the four language skills:  listening, speaking, reading and writing while learning about how to use the computer better.  However, we will be focusing our energy on learning how to use Microsoft Office 2001 for the Macintosh, rather than studying English for English’s sake.

 

            This class is an activity class.  Everyday you will learn and practice new things.  In this class you will be learning how to operate a Macintosh Computer, and how to use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  We will be using the textbook by Dan Henderson and Sandra Soares called Visual Quickstart Guide:  Microsoft Office 2001.    You will be reading the book, practicing in the computer lab during class time and outside of class (homework), and taking quizzes on the computer and on paper to make sure you understand everything we learn in class.  In addition, you will complete small projects using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

 

Grading: Your grades will be determined through the total points you have earned throughout the quarter in the following areas:

Requirements for Attendance: You are required to

-come to class every day and be on time, (4 absences or constant lateness will reduce your final grade by one letter.)

            -be prepared for class participation,

-speak only English in the classroom (This is an English class.  If you do not use English, I will ask you to leave the class for the day.

-talk to me or call me in advance if you have to be absent, (In that case, you need to talk to me later to find out what work you need to make up.)

-talk to me when you have problems or questions or when you think your needs are not being met.

-Do not talk when the teacher is talking.  If you have a question or problem, raise your hand.

-Do not sleep in class!
