Welcome

Welcome to the Flight Technology program. The information found on our web site should answer many of your questions and possibly raise some new ones. After you formulate some opinions and ideas as to your choice in the area of specialization, please write, or call us to discuss your decision. Satisfactory completion of this course of study will lead to a Bachelor of Science Degree in Flight Technology. There are three areas of specialization that lead to a professional pilot career and two areas of specialization for non-flying careers.

Flight Officer (FO) specialization

The Flight Officer (FO) specialization prepares the graduate for a professional pilot position by focusing on aircraft systems and aircraft operations. This 89 credit hour curriculum requires an algebra/trigonometry background. A minor is also required for this option and is selected by the student. Click here to see Required Courses.

Aircraft Systems Management (ASM) specialization (FAA Airway Science)

The Airway Science (AWS) program was developed for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The AWS Aircraft Systems Management (ASM) specialization also prepares the graduate for a professional pilot position but is more management oriented than the Flight Officer specialization. It does not require a minor because it is broader-based than the Flight Officer specialization.

For both the FO and ASM degrees, students earn a private pilot certificate (PVT) during their freshman year, the instrument rating (IFR) during their sophomore year, the commercial pilot certificate (COM) during their junior year, and the multiengine rating (ME) and certified flight instructor certificate (CFI) in their senior year. ASM students also earn their certified flight instructor certificate-instrument (CFII). Click here to see Required Courses.

Aviation Management (AM) specialization

The Aviation Management specialization prepares the graduate for a variety of administrative and management positions in the aviation community. Management career options related to aviation activities, such as airline management, airport manager, and general operations management positions, exist in the industry. This specialization does not require a minor. Click here to see Required Courses.

Aviation Maintenance Management (AMM) specialization (FAA Airway Science)

The AWS Aviation Maintenance Management specialization prepares the graduate for a career in the aviation maintenance field. The student must enter this course of study with his/her Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certificate obtained from a school having an FAR 147 approved curriculum. This emphasis does not require a minor. Click here to see Required Courses.
