Undergraduate Programs : Family Studies |
Welcome to Family StudiesDo you want to work with children and families? Do you enjoy helping people? Family Studies is an exciting major that enables students to pursue careers that support families in many different settings. Students interested in majoring in Family Studies at CWU will find a program ready to prepare them for a variety of professional roles in family programs, support services, public and private agencies, and community education. Our students are also well prepared to attend graduate school for family studies, marriage and family therapy, counseling, teaching certification, and other related fields. The program emphasizes families in a changing society and normative development in social context. This 65 credit major include classes on family problems, public policy, parenting, culture, marriage, sexuality, and human development across the life span. Family Studies majors may choose to complete fieldwork in an agency of their choice or complete 10 credits of approved elective courses to complement their major studies. Students seeking certification in Family Life Education must complete 125 hours at an approved Family Life Education internship.
