Family and Consumer Sciences Career and Technical Education Teaching Major

Students graduating with a Family Consumer Sciences Education major can be expected to prepare high school students...
  • For responsible positions in work and community roles,
  • To demonstrate knowledge and skills in individual family wellness, and
  • To create environments and utilize strategies in order to value diverse populations.

Some areas of study within the Family Consumer Sciences Education major are parenting, nutrition and wellness, interpersonal relationships, human development, family, textiles and apparels, housing, interiors and furnishings, hospitality, tourism and recreation, food science, dietetics, family and community services, early childhood, and education and services.

Students interested in a major in Family Consumer Sciences Education are required to complete a professional education program, the Family and Consumer Sciences major, student teach, obtain an valid CPR card, complete 2,000 hours of paid work experience in the previous six years, and provide documentation of occupational safety.
