Key Issuance

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I get keys for CWU buildings?

To obtain keys to CWU buildings, you will need a completed "key authorization card".
Bring the completed card, and picture identification, to the Lock Shop in the Jongeward building to pick up your keys.

  2. Where is the Lock shop?

The Lock shop is located in the Jongeward building on the corner of 11th & D streets. Click here for a Map.

  3. What do I do if I lose my keys?

The loss or disappearance of University keys should be reported to the Lock Shop and to your supervisor, chair or director immediately. The Lock Shop can be reached by calling 963-3000.

Public Safety and Police Services (campus police) should also be contacted because lost keys are often returned there. The campus police can be reached at 963-2958.

  4. What should I do if get locked out of the building?

If you are a CWU employee (faculty, staff or exempt) call campus police at 925-8535 or Call 963-3000.

If you are a student locked out of a dorm or apartment please follow the ORS lockout procedure shown below:

    ORS Lockout Procedure:

    1. Call Apartment or Residence Hall Manager
    2. Call FMD Maintenance X3000
      1. FMD will verify resident's name and place of residence
      2. FMD will call the on call (24 Hr.) Area Coordinator

      3. FMD will call KITTCOM to dispatch Campus Police

Note: ORS will have the option of billing occupants for repeated un-locks.

  5. What if keys need to be reissued?

We will send a Key Reissuance Authorization notice to the department. The department determines who should be reissued keys and who should not. If there are persons who should not receive the new key, cross the individual's name off the report. The report needs to be signed by the department head, chair or dean. Return the original signed Key Reissuance Authorization report to the Lock Shop. The lock shop will not complete the rekey work until it receives the Key Reissuance Authorization report. In cases where adequate time has passed and the Key Shop has not received the report, the lock will be rekeyed and anyone needing access to the room will be asked to bring a NEW key card signed by the department head, chair, or dean.
