Central Washington University covers about half the area
of Ellensburg. As a result, CWU is the place where CWU
students can enjoy and participate in various activities.
However, UESL (English as a Second Language) students don't
usually participate in the activities as easily as regular
students, even though they pay about $3,400 each quarter. We
know that they want to get along with regular students. In
spite of this fact, they don't usually participate in the
activities for several reasons. One is that
they lack courage. The other is that they have tight classes.
Usually, their classes are done at 2:00 for 3:00 in the
afternoon so that they don't have enough time to participate
in the activities. Another problem is that they don't get
information about the activity that they want to take part
in. I think that information is the most important thing, so
I want to give you some tips about how to get information.
Here are a couple of tips to get
information.
- Go to the Sub, the center of the CWU, and look
for some information about interesting things that you can
do.
- Go to www.cwu.edu/~schedule/calendar/
Check the Events Calendar.
- Read the Observer that is published by CWU every
Thursday. In this way, you can get information on what is
happening at CWU.
- Invest a little time to read about all information on a
notice board in any building. Ask an American friend about
some interesting things to do.
I think that these tips will help UESL students become more
active. Also, UESL students can become "real CWU students" if
they follow these tips.
