The 2001 Travel Class Description

In this course we learned about some famous (and maybe not so famous) places in the US, especially Washington State parks. Students taught us about places in the United States they were interested in and the teacher taught us about places in Washington State.

• In class time: Learned about Parks, Places in the United States, especially the places we would visit on our field trips.
• Outside of class: Gathered information about the United States and travel destinations. Talked to Americans.
• Field Trips: Went to local and distant places on field trips. On Friday afternoons or on the week-ends. Kept a journal and gathered information, photos, items for our scrapbooks.

Graded Activities:

1. Keep a journal about the field trips.
2. Quizzes on information/vocabulary we were learning in class.
3. Planned our "BIG" trip and our smaller trips.
4. Presentation about a place in the US (your choice).
5. Final Project (10 page scrapbook showing what we saw, did, and learned in this class.)

We learned about the United States and Washington State by using our textbook, getting materials from travel agencies and the National Park Service, talking to Americans, using the library and the Internet.

We took some trips, including a trip to the wonderful and unique Olympic Peninsula. Students practiced all language skills by reading about places, talking to Americans, and planning trips for themselves and making presentations for their classmates.
