Central Washington University
Central Washington University (CWU) is a
state university that offers a liberal arts educaton as well
as preparation for specific professions. The university
campus, on the edge of downtown Ellensburg, is spacious,
modern, and beautifully landscaped. About 8,600 students
attend the university. There are more than 100 majors and
eight preprofessional programs at the undergraduate level.
CWU also offers a number of graduate
programs. Classes are offered four quarters a year: fall,
winter, spring and summer. Many students live in residence halls (dormitories)which are located close to the classroom buildings. There is a large library, a student health and counseling center, many computer labs on campus, and a recreational and fitness center along with tennis courts, basketball courts, a weight room, and an indoor swimming pool which UESL students are welcome to use. The CWU mascot is the wildcat. You can attend CWU football, basketball and baseball games, as well as other sporting events and cheer, "Go Wildcats!" Central Washington University is also home to the world famous chimp, Washoe, and her family. They are housed at the Chimpanzee and Human Communication Institute.
