Student News and Notes

Lissa Richardson presented a paper on "Narrative in Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children" at the Midwest Popular Culture Association Conference in Cincinnati.

Sara-June Treadwell received the 2008 Dale and Mary Jo Comstock Distinguished Thesis Award for her thesis "Alternative Representations of the Female Voice in Shakespeare's Othello and Webster's The Duchess of Malfi." This is the third year in a row that an English Graduate student has received the award---not a bad record.

Sonya Dunning received the College of Arts and Humanities Summer Graduate Scholarship Award for 2008.

Chris Mayer received a College of Arts and Humanities Graduate Student Scholarship Achievement Award.

Jeremy Vetter has had a short story accepted for publication by The Sonora Review, and it was nominated by the editor for a Pushcart prize.

Dustin, Yoko, and Amanda received awards for their SOURCE presentations.

Chelsea Krotzer received the 2008 CAH Award for Achievement in Non-Fiction Writing

Brennan Grass placed second in the 2008 Avar Press Literary Essay Scholarship Competition for College Students, earning a $750 scholarship. His essay, entitled "Zen and 'Xen'," was an analysis of D.J. Solomon's Xen: Ancient English Edition.

Andy Burt had a poem and a story accepted by the 23rd Annual National Undergraduate Literature Conference. Andy's work was selected from submissions from all fifty states.
