Taught general education courses in humanities, literature, creative writing, and composition, participated on assessment committees.
Acting Director/Writing Specialist: University Writing Center Central Washington University, Ellensburg, Washington
2002-05
Established policies and procedures for newly created university program, coordinated services, hired tutors, supervised teaching assistants, authored Web content, wrote small grant proposals, provided writing workshops to faculty and students (respectively), collaborated with faculty on design of interdisciplinary writing assignments, co-authored developmental English curriculum, prepared students for standardized writing tests, and tutored at University Writing Center.

  • Specialties include creative writing (nonfiction, poetry, satire) and composition.
  • Current projects include Halfway out the Door (essay collection), Professors of Parody: Fifty Years of Campus Fiction (edited anthology), and "A Little Raillery" (column in the Adjunct Advocate magazine).

  • Grants applied for:
    National Endowment for the Arts: Access to Artistic Excellence Grant for $5,000 in support of CAH/English department's Writing Specialization (visiting author series). 15 August 2006 (pending).

    Central Washington University: Student Technology Fee Committee awarded University Writing Center a $5,000 grant to fund replacement of computers for student use. June 2007

Teaching Experience
  • Interests include general literature, composition, environmental writing, and humanities.
  • Awards and honors include a Citation for Service to Students from CWU Office of Student Affairs (5/96) and a HarperCollins Fellowship, one of five annual awards made to adjunct faculty by the publisher.
  • Courses taught at the undergraduate level have included American Literature I and II, Contemporary Literature, Introduction to the Literary Imagination, Composition 101 and 102, Rhetoric, Creative Nonfiction, and Humanities.
