Department of English Judith Kleck
Assistant Professor of English Judith Kleck has taught full-time in the department since 1983. Before settling in Ellensburg, she was an itinerant
student, studying at New Mexico State University, the University of New Mexico, Wenatchee Valley Community College, and
Washington State University. She brought all of those credits to CWU, and after one year here, graduated with a B.A. in
Literature. She then moved to Tucson with her husband Joe Powell, where she was invited to join MFA program by poet Jon
Anderson. She studied creative writing/poetry for two years. Upon returning to Ellensburg, she completed her MA in
Literature from CWU. She taught for one year at Heritage College in Toppenish before joining the faculty at Central. She
currently teaches a variety of writing courses including technical writing and creative non-fiction. She grew up on a
ranch in New Mexico and continues to raise and train quarterhorses with her husband and sons on their small farm near
Ellensburg. She serves as faculty advisor to the CWU Equestrian Club. She is currently Coordinator Of Internships for the
English Department.
