The Yearlong Internship Program

A yearlong program (September – June)



  • Pre-Autumn (August)
    • Begin with cooperating teachers
      • District/school LID days
  • In school when teachers start (first week of September)
    • Work with teacher
      • Observe
      • Work with students (1-on-1, small groups)
      • Take attendance
      • Make mini-presentations
      • Teach mini-lessons
      • Team teach
      • Research
      • Grade papers
  • First (Fall) Quarter:
    • Five weeks in one classroom and (optional) rotate into second classroom.
      • Minimum of 10 – 12 hours per week (2 hours/day) in the classroom.
      • Classroom participation scheduled according to student’s
        • course schedule. (Ideal: 2 hour block in the morning per day)
    • Attend and complete C.W.U. class schedule each quarter.
      • Encouraged not to take over 14 credits or more than 3 – 4 classes.
      • Practicum: EDCS 492 – Four (4) credits per quarter
      • Seminars/Meetings: One per month
  • Second (Winter) Quarter:
    • Rotate into third classroom (optional/depending on school)
    • Repeat objectives/requirements of first quarter.
  • Third (Spring) Quarter:
    • Student teach in the classroom or one of the three classrooms observed.
