Geographic Assignments

  • Not all areas of geographic preference are available as options for placement in every quarter.
  • In areas where placement options are limited, students will be chosen based on a random lottery system. Typically, this refers only to Kittitas County placements (where there are usually no more than 8 placements available in any given quarter), but may also apply to other areas as well, based on district need and availability of cooperating teachers. Extenuating personal or professional circumstances for areas with limited placement will not be considered in such areas.
  • No placements will be sought in areas where full-time supervisors are not available to seek placements (typically, placements are sought in areas near the 6 University Centers).

Interview

Student teaching interviews are mandatory. Sign-up sheets will be posted approximately two weeks after the deadline date. You must sign-up for a 15 minute interview. This interview provides the contact between student teacher and supervisor and allows the supervisor to get to know the student teacher. Students can also discuss questions and concerns regarding student teaching with the supervisor. Appropriate interview attire is suggested.

Registration

You are responsible for registering for the appropriate section of EDCS 442 - Student Teaching using SAFARI. Permission numbers will be sent to your CWU Groupwise account during pre-registration for the quarter which you have applied to student teach. You will have until the end of the change of course schedule period to register for student teaching, pre-registration is not required by the Department of Education. However, please note that you may have to pre-register for financial aid.
