Graduate programs in the Department of Education are designed to advance the skills and knowledge of certified teachers in specialty areas and prepare educational leaders. Information germane to all graduate students and those seeking a M.Ed. degree in particular is available in the graduate portion of the university catalog http://www.cwu.edu/~catalogs/ under "Graduate Studies-Programs and Courses" and the Central Washington University Graduate Studies and Research Office http://www.cwu.edu/~masters/ Master of Education: Special EducationThe Master of Education with specialization in Special Education is designed to allow students to pursue graduate level study in the various areas of special education. Prerequisites: Students must have an institutional endorsement in Special Education or a minimum of one year teaching experience in a special education classroom as a certified teacher. Students without an institutional endorsement will be required to take appropriate background courses. One year of successful teaching prior to taking the final 15 credits of coursework is also required. Students must submit documented evidence of teaching experience to their program advisor. Program. Students will complete at least 45 credits of approved graduate level coursework. The Course of Study will be developed in consultation with their major advisor from special education and filed with the Office of Graduate Studies and Research.
