Library Media EndorsementWe are now accepting reservation forms for our Summer 2008 program. Please note that our Summer 2007 program was full by March 05, 2007, so we encourage all prospective students for our Summer 2008 program to complete and submit the reservation form as soon as possible. The reservation form and application information can be found in the MS Word document below. 2008 Library Media Reservation Form and Application Information (in MS WORD) All courses needed to complete the requirements to qualify for a Library Media endorsement to the teaching certificate will be offered summer quarters. Individuals completing this 27-credit program will have met the minimum initial level of preparation necessary to direct a learning resources (library media) center in a K-12 school. Tentative Summer 2008 ScheduleFIRST SUMMER STUDENTS JULY 7-18, 2008EDCS 536Selecting Literature for Children and Young Adults
(3) The nature of literature for children and young adults, how to develop a literature collection, and how to promote it. EDCS 514Media Development (3) Introduction to design and production of various instructional materials from manual to more complex computer techniques. JULY 21-August 1, 2008EDCS 526Instructional Methods for Library Media (3) Instructional methods used by library media specialists in their work, e.g., independent learning skills, literacy appreciation, visual literacy, reading motivation, creative drama, puppetry, storytelling, authoring software, presentation skills, etc. EDCS 548Collection Development/Library Media (3) Principles of developing a school learning resources collection, including both print and nonprint materials. Topics to be included are development of a materials selection policy, intellectual freedom issues, selection tools, and appropriate tools and strategies in the selection process. NOTE: Between the first and second summers, all first summer students are expected to complete a 3-credit 90-hour practicum. This course is listed as EDCS 599, Seminar and will be listed on your first summer schedule.SECOND SUMMER STUDENTS Students who have completed the first four initial classes must complete these four classes (all course registrations are by permission only): JULY 7-18, 2008EDCS 516Advanced Media Utilization (3) Explores recent research, experimental programs and new developments in the utilization of media. Students will gain hands-on experience in using technology for library media. EDCS 568Information Storage and Retrieval (3) Reference tools, inforamtion sources, and the use of the Internet and other databases for the retrieval of information on all forms of media will be explored as well as the principles of storing and circulating materials, including computerized circulation systems. JULY 21-August 1, 2008EDCS 558Cataloging and Classification for Library Media
(3) Principles and techniques of cataloging, classifying, and assigning subject headings to books and other media; including automation sources and requirements with an emphasis on the preparation of the MARC record. EDCS 578Administration of Media / Technology Programs
(3) Develop skills and expertise needed to manage media/technology programs, including managing budgets and personnel; evaluating, writing specifications for, and ordering software and equipment. |
