Student Teaching Information for Supervisors

The information here is to help University Field Supervisors with the application, interview, placement, and supervision process. While University Field Supervisors have individual management and interpersonal communications styles, the information contained here is geared toward standardizing the process of documentation (and information flow) regarding the Student Teaching experience.

Fall quarter student teachers are required to be in the classroom no fewer than 54 instructional days, but are often asked to be in the classroom from the first day of P-12 classes until the district’s winter break. The University Field Supervisor and Cooperating Teacher will determine the length of the experience based on expectations of the school in which the student is placed.

Winter quarter is a often shorter than Fall and Spring due to weather considerations/school closures. It is suggested that Winter quarter student teachers meet, during December, with the Cooperating Teacher and the students in the classroom in which they will work. This will help them meet all of the requirements for Student Teaching.

Spring quarter student teachers will begin the experience the Monday of the CWU spring break, observing the spring break of the district in which they are placed.
