A document is the basic unit of composition in LiveText. Any content that you wish to enter into LiveText must be entered into a document. Documents can contain text, tables, images, attachments (computer files created outside of LiveText), standards, resources, rubrics, and form responses.
Documents have two essential components: pages and sections. A page is a subdivision of a document and a section is a subdivision of a page. Content can only be entered into sections. This means that a document must contain at least one page and that page must contains at least one section before any content can be entered into a document.
Any type of composition can be created within a document. A document can also contain multiple, separate compositions.

There are six types of sections in LiveText and each type stores different content. The table below describes each section type.
Section types
| Type |
Description |
Text & Image |
The most commonly used type. Stores typed or pasted text. This section also stores up to one image and up to ten file attachments. |
Standards |
Stores standards selected from the LiveText standards database.
You can not type or paste standards into a standards section. If you wish to type or paste your standards then use a Text & Image section instead |
Resources |
Stores a formatted list of external supplemental material. The most common use of this section is to store streaming videos available from Discovery Education. |
Rubric |
Stores rubrics built in LiveText. You can not paste an external rubric into the rubric section. You must build the rubric in LiveText. |
Form Viewer |
Stores responses to forms that you have submitted. |
Questions |
Stores a very simple form that can be used to solicit user responses. This is not the same as the LiveText Forms feature, which is a far more useful tool. |
