Reports:
  • Update on NCATE preparations
Lists for syllabi and vita submitted as well as still needed were distributed for each College. There was a general discussion of the preparations for NCATE and the development of the website.
Old Business:
  • EXCEL
John Glenewinkel reported that a committee is being formed to review the current program. Chris Curran has been allocated 3 Work-load-units to work with the K-12 Alternative School in Ellensburg School District. Representatives will all be sought from OIC, CAPS, DSHS, KVCH, and other agencies in Ellensburg. Jan Bowers, Bill Bender, Keith Salyer, and Pat Gross were suggested as others from CWU. The vice-principal at Morgan Middle School is seeking funding. A model for the program would include daycare.
New Business:
  • Senate Bill 5101:
Senate Bill 5101 would provide tuition waivers for teachers and other school personnel without providing funding from the state. Members of the Council of Presidents for the state universities are writing letters opposing this measure. Such a bill would adversely affect CWU especially in the areas of Continuing Education, Professional Certification, and Endorsements. In addition to the impact on teacher preparation programs, there are implications for other groups that must meet continuing education or professional development to seek similar financial assistance from the universities. Rebecca Bowers will be sending data for the Teacher Preparation Programs to Libby Street by 11:00 this morning.
Unfinished Business:
None
