National Board Certification is an advanced, voluntary, professional credential for K-12 teachers and school counselors. Sponsored by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, it is based on Five Core Propositions, which describe accomplished teaching- what teachers should know and be able to do. Nearly 500 Washington teachers achieved National Board Certification® in 2007. Washington is fifth in the nation in number of NBCTs.
