Campus Map
Description: The Center for Student Empowerment is proud to bring "The Vagina Monologues" to Central Washington University for the fourth year in a row. Why do we continue to bring this controversial performance to Ellensburg? Because if it easy to feel that violence against women and girls happens "somewhere else" and that it no longer merits attention or education and prevention campaigns; it's easy to feel that we have had power taken away from us because ending violence against women and girls is such a large, constant battle. "The Vagina Monologues" allows us to get together and laugh, learn, cry, blush, scream, and, perhaps most importantly, think. "The Vagina Monologues" illustrates women in a way not often seen in the mainstream media; women are not objectified or reduced or kept quiet, but instead women are on stage sharing stories that are personal accounts of real women that are universal such that the stories could belong to your own mother, neighbor, daughter, cousin, sister, or friend. "The Vagina Monologues" makes us aware that vulvas are a part of women and thus sacred, connected to the mind, and not a shameful thing.
"The Vagina Monologues" is also an amazing opportunity to support our own local non-profit organization, ASPEN (Abuse Support and Prevention Education Now), that works to support survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault and to educate the community about violence so as to prevent violence before it happens. Profits from ticket sales, merchandising, and bake sales go to ASPEN. Not only does the audience get to enjoy a thought-provoking few hours of entertainment, it gets to feel proud at it's donation to a non-profit organization working hard to help survivors who need and want it.
"The Vagina Monologues" will be playing for three performances, Friday February 10 and Saturday February 11 at 7pm (doors open at 6:30pm) and Sunday February 12 at 2pm (doors open at 1:30pm). Tickets are on sale now for $5 student and $7 general at the Info booth in the SUB and general tickets only at Jerrol's. Tickets will be available at the door for $2 more than presale ($7 student, $9 general). Come see for yourself this confessional, humorous, shocking, controversial, celebrative, brave, fierce, and honest performance.
