Women's Rights on the International Stage: An Historic Perspective

Dr. Ellen Carol Dubois, Professor of History at the University of California, Los Angeles, will be speaking about the international women's rights movement, which as been one of the most vital dimensions of global efforts to advance human rights since the mid-1990s. The lecture will cover the historical background of the contemporary phenomenon of the international women's rights movement, as well as the achievements of international women's rights in making women's issues part of the larger battle for human rights.

50 Fun things to do with your kids on a Saturday
Out to Lunch Speaker Series

Running out of ideas for local family adventures? Wonder how you'll keep the kids entertained this Saturday? Come to the April  24th Out to Lunch and learn 50 great ideas to keep both parents and kids happy. Best of all, you won't need to drive far or spend much; each activity can be done at home or in the local Ellensburg area for free or a nominal expense. Jesse Nelson, director of the Center for Excellence in Leadership will be giving a dynamic presentation.

Symposium Without Boundaries Presentation
4 pm SURC Ballroom

Dr. Wangari Muta Maathai is an environmental and political activist and the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. She founded the Green Belt Movement, a grassroots environmental organization, and has worked to improve women's lives in Kenya. Brought to you by The Symposium Group.

Parents: A Tree-rific Kid Cat Zone (KCZ) will be offered during this event for children ages 3-10. Kid Cat Zone it is an activity zone for children, hosted during University sponsored activities. Volunteer staff who have proper clearances and background checks will be supervising children and providing eco-friendly activities for them to participate. KCZ is brought to you by the DVD Civic Engagement Center, University Recreation, and the Center for Student Empowerment.

Mary Jo Huff is a nationally recognized author, educator, puppeteer, recording artist, and storyteller. She has trained teachers nationwide on the importance of language and literacy through the power of telling stories. She has a magical humor in her high- energy performance and lively mix of rhythm and rhyme for any story time.
Mary Jo will be at Head Start from 9:00-10:00, Ellensburg Library 10:30-11:30, ELCL 12:00-1:00, and CMA Childcare 3:30-4:30.

Mary Jo will be doing a workshop in SURC 301 from 1:00-4:00 the workshop will have STARS credit available.Mary Jo will be talking about story telling and the use of puppetry.
On Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 pm in the SURC pit she will be doing a family night which will be open to students, faculty and community members. Everyone is invited to attend.

Learn more about your family history when CWU lecturer Dave Storla presents this sneek peek into his popular genealogy class.
As part of CWU's Family-Friendly Campus Initiative, KID CAT ZONE, children's activities for ages 3-10, will be provided by the Don & Verna Duncan Civic Engagement Center while student parents attend the workshop.
