![]() ![]() ASL on Campus
Central offers two full years of American Sign
Language, 151-153 and 251-253. These courses are taught by instructors
who are native signers. We also have an ASL Club which actively sponsors
many Deaf/HOH related activities on campus each year.
Sign Language Interpreters:
CWU offers certified sign language
interpreters as well as TypeWell transcribers for access to classes and
extracurricular events as requested.
Transcriber-
Our transcribers use the Typewell transcription system, a meaning-for-meaning
system. This means the transcriber uses a laptop to capture all spoken content
in class communication access, including jokes, off-the-point comments, behavioral
control, etc.
Interpreter-
Our interpreters are either certified or have been determined qualified to interpret.
Interpreters translate from spoken English to ASL or Contact Sign Language, whichever is deemed most appropriate for the student with
whom theyare working.
